Switching Places

This is just in. LA Tenorio and Larry Fonacier have been traded by the Magnolia Beverage Masters to the Alaska Aces for Mike Cortez and Ken Bono. My gut feel is that there’s more to come. Alaska became a much faster team (and probably more feisty) with the entry of ex-Ateneo alums Tenorio and Fonacier. Fonacier will give the Aces something they needed for a long time – a pure outside shooter who can play defense and doesn’t choke in the clutch. He may just be the doctor ordered for the Aces. Fonacier could very well essay the role played by Jojo Lastimosa during his heydays. It has been no secret that Alaska coach Tim Cone had his eyes on Fonacier since draft day 2005 (only Red Bull beat them to the draw) and now that he has him, expect a lot of things in store for the 6’1″ Quezon City native. Tenorio’s addition will give the Aces a younger (and probably) better player at the point. Only 5’8″, Tenorio makes up for his deficiency in size with spunk and court savvy.
