In a deal that was weeks in the making, the [tag]Air21[/tag] finally shipped high-flying guard 6-1 [tag]Ronald Tubid[/tag] to crowd favorite [tag]Barangay Ginebra[/tag] for a 2009 first round draft pick and two second round picks in 2007 and 2008. Tubid has been averaging 11 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.7 apg and 1.2 spg in 6 games with the Express this season. He gives the [tag]Gin Kings[/tag] an energetic player off the bench or as a starter at point guard if they decide to field a big lineup. Tubid can play at least three positions and that versatility will be a huge boost for the Gin Kings. The addition of Tubid means that the Gin Kings are now “2-deep” at every position.
The trade was reportedly a done deal several weeks ago but was put on hold pending the return of the 6-7 [tag]Nino Canaleta[/tag]. Canaleta injured his nose badly and missed several games for the Express. It is very likely that the Express will be shopping around for a replacement. The Express only have 11 men in their roster following the trade. However, Canaleta and [tag]Arwind Santos[/tag], who are both natural small forwards, are both versatile and talented enough to slide to the “2” position should the need arise.
