LBJ on GQ

Amongst the publications that made me think of becoming a writer was GQ. The others were Road & Track, National Geographic and Playboy, which explains somewhat the roots of my interest in Style, Cars, Travel and uhmm.. Photography. Ok fine. I admit I appreciated the art of writing copy to fit the limited space just beside the featured Playmate (she’s a Scorpio and likes to read, we’re practically SOULMATES!!), but to me, Playboy had some of the finest writers I had ever read at the time, with approaches to interviews re Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan in their prime that redefined, to my mind, the fine and noble art that is sportswriting – A profession of which many are called but few, ever so painfully FEW, are worthy.

At any rate, to explain why I have a pic of LeBron James looking like he’s ready to hug you, LBJ will be on GQ’s cover for February, and I just spent the last 30 minutes or so perusing the excellent teaser – article on their site, accessible by clicking here. (That’s right, typical Pinoy sports fan: Prepare To Read)

Is Marbury to blame for feud with Knicks?

I don’t get this feud between Stephon Marbury and the New York Knicks. When Mike D’Antoni became the Knicks head coach, Marbury was removed from the rotation. No small wonder, since Starbury plays like a cancerous leech whose only priority are individual stats.

It was Chris Duhon, formerly from the Chicago Bulls, who won the starting point guard duties. Knicks management said Marbury would not be traded, released, or waived—most likely because of his eye-popping $21-million salary this year.

Say It Isn't So

In Oh My God news today, Isiah Thomas was reportedly taken to the hospital for ODing on sleeping pills. Frankly, reports are still sketchy, with some reporting just an ambulance going there and some declaring it an all out collapse. It’s obvious however that things are not ok in Isiah land (and it hasn’t been for a long time I imagine).

Now being a Knicks fan I’ve written about Isiah many many times, and usually in a less than positive note. I’ve even assumed, wrongly of course, that Knicks management would get their heads on eventually and kick him out and even bet my blogging on it. My attempts to stop till he got fired went pffft of course, when I realized I just liked doing this too much.

At any rate, this isn’t about myself. It’s about Isiah Thomas.
