Jones Cup Phils v. Iran 2012 In BulletPoints

We Keep Missing Shots – I’ll go right ahead and get to the biggest reason why this game was much harder than it should’ve been, and that is plain and simple, we keep missing shots.

No Respect

You see comments like these on the ‘net all the time, and for the most part its harmless, right? I mean it’s just some idiot ranting on and besides, he’s entitled to that. If he feels that way, after much thorough research and study I’m sure, then that’s that.

Then I read Chris Tiu’s blog the other day, re the time they played the NBA Selection a few weeks ago:

Gilas' DOHA Sked – CANCELLED

Thanks to J for letting me know this tournament didn’t pan out, referring post here. I made this post much earlier when I got the sched and I left it at that.

Herewith is the official 2011 DOHA 4-nation Tournament to be held August. 24-29, 2011. DOHA, Qatar, Al Gharafa Indoor Hall. Participants are Lebanon, Philippines, Syria and Qatar.

Yes that’s just a lousy screenshot of an OpenOffice Calc file. However, once again I am supplying a csv file of the same thing here in case you want to make your own permutations or add to your own calendar.

Ehdadi, Who We Owe, 3rd is Good Enough, Ridiculous Referees, And other Jones Cup Thoughts

I watched the Jones Cup from the very start and only missed probably 1 or 2 games at the most, and those weren’t really crucial anyway, so I can talk about this at length. Starting with:

We Owe This Man – There is no doubt in my mind that right now, the Pinoy Sports Fan owes MVP every little bit of gratitude they can muster in their little jologs minds, so thank you sir, thank you very much.

I do not know him very well, unfortunately. I do not even know his roots which is why I reserve commenting re his person to a time when I am better informed. Fact is I’ve heard nothing but negative things about him, which is unfortunate considering how well he’s done in almost all the ventures he’s been, and how if his public persona was better managed he could serve to be someone we could aspire to. On the other hand maybe he prefers it that way. I don’t know. I will endeavour to learn more about him in future readings.

Unleash The JV

Yes my title alludes broadly to the movie Clash Of The Titans and that scene when some god releases a monster which sets forth much death and destruction upon a sad collection of unprepared mortals. And Yes it doesn’t sound quite as menacing as ‘Kracken’, but that’s pretty much where the differences end because it’s nothing but similarities here-on.

See when I watched the Phil – Korea game the other day where we lost 78-70, common sports press parlance would have you say ‘we didn’t lose without putting up a fight’. Well, that picture above represented that fight. A growling, snarling, missile-firing, both guns slinging, 3 pt. barrage, scoring rampage of a PG that can do it all. Pass, handle, shoot.. and boy can he shoot. Stop on – a – dime shoot. Shoot open 3s. Shoot 3s with a hand on his face. Shoot Js from 10 feet, 17 feet, 5 feet.

If the Philippine team needs to ‘unleash’ something akin to a to the basketball equivalent of a Kracken, then goddammit you unleash J-Shock, there’s no 2 ways about it.

Yet Another Wake Up Call

Smart Gilas is a team that had been playing together for quite some time now, only recently coming back from tournaments abroad. RP Powerade Team Pilipinas in contrast is composed of pro players who hadn’t played together because they had no reason to.

So lo and behold, when I went to Araneta last Monday to watch the game, I saw a Smart Gilas team that looked like they had been playing together for quite some time now, only recently coming back from tournaments abroad. In contrast, RP Powerade Team Pilipinas looked like they were composed of pro players who hadn’t played together because they had no reason to.

Ondoy Benefit Games @ Araneta

Here’s a repost from Chris Tiu’s blog:

The SBP (Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas), together with the PBA, PBL, UAAP and NCAA, is organizing a fund raiser basketball showdown this Monday, October 5 for the victims of Ondoy. There will be two games (at the Araneta Coliseum). First game at 5pm is between the UAAP / NCAA selection vs PBL / Liga Pilipinas selection. And the main game at 7pm is between the RP Powerade vs RP Smart Gilas. Of course, I will be playing in that game for the Smart Gilas team together with Japeth Aguilar, Marc Barocca, JV Casio, Dylan Ababou, CJ Giles, etc.
