Ok let's start off with what you need to know.
First off, Rebound Magazine September / October Issue #2 should be available at National Bookstore now. This lays to rest questions re where and where to buy it when I wrote about it the first time it came out.
Second, it's the last issue of the year, with a 3rd issue, I am assured, in the works for next. As such, congratulations are in order to the publisher, editors and writers behind it because obviously we wouldn't even be talking about a 3rd issue if the 1st one wasn't a hit.

According to a letter issued by a CHED OIC Director, former ADMU player Jobe Nkemakolam, previously the subject of yet another UAAP Men's Basketball controversy, was eligible for College and therefore cleared to play during the time he was on their roster.
To recall, a certain Atty. Levito Baligod filed a complaint with the UAAP Board, claiming that Nkemakolam was not qualified to enter College and therefore ineligible. He presented evidence ie. a CHED statement issued Sept. 3, 2009 stating that Nkemakolam “has not met the academic requirements to graduate from high school, hence, he is not qualified for admission to college.” The document was signed by a Lilian B. Enriquez, Officer-in-Charge, Director III. Reports via inboundpass and uaapsports.com.
Also contested by Baligod was Nkemakolam's graduating from Reedley International School, providing evidence stating the school has no record of his attendance for Grade 12, the equivalent of 4th Year High School.

So as everyone knows MJ shot his mouth off about how Bryon Russell 'threw wood into his fire'. Well guess what. In recent news, the Utah Jazz NBA D-League owner is offering a $100,000 donation to the charity of the winner's choice to see MJ play Russell play one on one.
Even earlier than that, Russell already said how willing he'd be to take him on, saying “I’ll play his a— right now, This is a call-out for him to come play me. He can come out here in his private jet and come play. He’s got millions of dollars. He can pay for the jet. He can meet me at the Recreation Center in Calabasas.” to Yahoo Sports.

Accusation, accusal (a formal charge of wrongdoing brought against a person; the act of imputing blame or guilt).
These days, Mark Barroca is in the hotseat. FEU has recently said more or less, that the reason he isn't playing is either because 'the team expressed dissatisfaction with his play' and / or he 'gave in to temptation'. On the other hand, Barroca himself issued a statement detailing how sorry he is about what happened (whatever it is), and how he is moving on (again, from whatever it is).
The problem is, there cannot be any moving on, there cannot be any apologies or acceptance of apologies without primarily explaining what it is he's accused of having done.
Otherwise, there are two scenarios:
One: Either Barroca has been a victim of mismanagement - because you can't just kick a player out due to 'bad play' or
Two: He's getting away with murder - because if he sold a game, he has more than FEU or the UAAP to answer to.

Above title is my pathetic attempt to make this post slightly more entertaining than the pics I'm about to show you. No? Didn't work? So ok here are the pics of Pacquiao's fancy glow in the dark shoes then:

By now everyone on the planet that's ever idolized him has heard his Hall Of Fame speech, and by doing so hopefully taken away something good out of it. Frankly, I didn't.
Which is not to say it detracts from his talent, ability and accomplishments. His greatness may have lessened, but certainly not what he's done with his career.

In preparation for the oncoming Hall of Fame weekend in the US (Sep 10-12), I've naturally been privy to all the hype, particularly when I go YouTube-ing (which I tend to do when I'm working bored). It's hard not to be. You can always tell what the NBA's trying to cook up if you notice an inordinate number of NBA sponsored YouTube videos re a particular player or event. For example, if it's All-Star weekend, nearly every basketball video on YouTube's front page is showing All-Star games, interviews leading to All-Star games, etc. (assuming of course, that you have a YouTube account), and so on.
At any rate, the one thing I know that's hard to find on YouTube are John Stockton related material, but since a few weeks ago, that's been radically changed. Highlights and more highlight reels abound, but today I think I've found the best.

| Liveblogging UST vs. UE (UAAP 2nd Round) |
(09/10/2009) |
| 4:20 |
[Comment From mike] any update on DLSU-NU? |
| 4:20 |
Good afternoon everyone. |
| 4:20 |
DLSU has been beaten by NU, 63-61. |
| 4:20 |
That means UST and DLSU will not have a head to head on Thu. |
| 4:21 |
DLSU shot themselves in the foot, by shooting less than 50% in the 2nd half. |
| 4:22 |
what a game. that was one of the most exciting ones I've seen in a long time. But NU brought game, while DLSU played like.. i dunno.. not like the DLSU we've come to know through the years. |
| 4:22 |
[Comment From Sancho] In the end, dlsu couldn't get the job done |
| 4:23 |
[Comment From Sancho] DLSU is like Team USA that placed 6th in Indianapolis |
| 4:24 |
yung iverson / miller team? why? |
| 4:24 |
manonood ba kayo nung nba event bukas? |
| 4:25 |
oh sorry, are you guys abroad? |
| 4:25 |
[Comment From Sancho] You know at the start that they will be there, but in the end it was a tragedy waiting to happen |
| 4:26 |
anyway, i have no stake in this UAAP season for the 1st time since, I can't remember, now with my team out. |
| 4:26 |
i will now be liveblogging for the love of the readers of my site! |
| 4:26 |
[Comment From Sancho] i never thought the veterans can carry the team, unlike casio, rico, et al... |
| 4:27 |
im very disappointed in malabes, mangahas, etc. Being seniors, siempre you expect more from them. But at the last game (I didn't see today's whole game), they were even benched till the 2nd half! |
| 4:27 |
[Comment From Guest] would the previous game mean DLSU is totally out of the final four? |
| 4:27 |
[Comment From Sancho] I will now shut up.please proceed |
| 4:27 |
[Comment From mike] but DLSU overachieved for this season. on paper, other teams were better. Although their supposed-to-be veterans played sub-par. |
| 4:28 |
olats pa rin, at the end of the day. |
| 4:28 |
anyway, UST UE game highlights now on the tube. |
| 4:28 |
I have to admit this, I never thought I'd feel it, pero mabigat talaga loob ko. LOL! Didn't expect this hahaha. |
| 4:28 |
[Comment From 999] and by 2 points again. to ue feu and now nu :| |
| 4:29 |
ok will be starting in a few mins |
| 4:29 |
UE is 9-4, UST is 6-7 |
| 4:30 |
[Comment From Guest] would the previous game mean DLSU is totally out of the final four? |
| 4:30 |
yes guest. diin mo pa. |
| 4:30 |
[Comment From Guest] oh sorry. didnt mean anything. *peace* |
| 4:31 |
[Comment From admu] hi gary. what a pity. we were waiting for you guys to show up |
| 4:31 |
[Comment From 999] lol. i feel the same way sir :| the suspended season was a bummer. but this. |
| 4:32 |
wait. ano ba ang possible permuitations for finals. |
| 4:32 |
finals?ADMU - UE
ADMU - UST
ADMU - FEU
|
| 4:32 |
[Comment From admu] at least your team shows a lot of promise. you have a great bunch of young turks for next season |
| 4:32 |
guys im not sure kung tama yung poll options. ill check lang ha. |
| 4:33 |
im assuming admu is a shoe in |
| 4:33 |
well, sabi nga, weather weather lang |
| 4:33 |
[Comment From Guest] let's wait and see sir |
| 4:34 |
[Comment From 999] it's either FEU or UE hehe |
| 4:34 |
ok were ready to go. |
| 4:35 |
pay no attention to my whinings, i'm just surprised i started to care about my team when they were actually kicked out. It just doesn't seem real, frankly. |
| 4:35 |
[Comment From mike] finals: ADMU-UE, ADMU-FEU, UST-FEU, UST-UE |
| 4:35 |
[Comment From marb] si pido magmemerienda na lang daw sa gateway... |
| 4:36 |
[Comment From Remm] UST UE sir, nakalimutan nyo |
| 4:36 |
ganun pala pag natalo, di maka concentrate. |
| 4:36 |
c'mon ateneans, bring on the jokes |
| 4:36 |
[Comment From admu] on the contrary, lalo sila fired up. takot sa pressure mga yun! |
| 4:37 |
[Comment From admu] i meant UST. di pwede magmerienda si Pido. Ilalabas nya ang "galing" nila |
| 4:37 |
pido was my idol when i was growing up. Other than Rudy Distrito he was a real game changer. |
| 4:38 |
im thinking maybe he expects same from his players. not a lot of players can deliver like he could. |
| 4:38 |
If it sounds like I think UST's coaching is suspect, that's exactly how i feel. |
| 4:38 |
Ok tama na drama. here we go with starting lineups. |
| 4:39 |
UE: Lingganay, Reyes, Espiritu, Acuna, Lee |
| 4:39 |
this Lee is amazing. |
| 4:39 |
UST: Fortuna, Bautista, Camus, Mirza, Ababou |
| 4:39 |
no surprises either side. |
| 4:40 |
mirza bothered, turn over |
| 4:41 |
sorry.. got confused. UST is in gold, UE in white. |
| 4:41 |
Ababou step back, scores |
| 4:42 |
mirza miss on fbreak, blocked by espiritu |
| 4:42 |
espiritu slam on alley oop play |
| 4:43 |
UE actually has an alley oop play set for espiritu. outstanding. |
| 4:44 |
fortuna drive blocked by espiritu |
| 4:45 |
[Comment From mike] do the players still have the intensity in this no-bearing game? |
| 4:45 |
its only the 1st q, but probably not, being college players |
| 4:46 |
[Comment From admu] watch out for bautista. i think pido sees himself in this guy. they have a play for him and i think they're effective..pido playing the same position during his time |
| 4:46 |
yes, parehong volume shooters |
| 4:46 |
although kay pido, pumapasok. :) |
| 4:47 |
[Comment From admu] well, true. but if you remember the game last season. this bautista guys was really great in a losing cause to lasalle ata |
| 4:47 |
espiritu all alone slam |
| 4:47 |
espiritu is like playing nba live |
| 4:48 |
ue layup exhibition, scores again |
| 4:48 |
[Comment From admu] 20+ pts deficit erased in a single quarter bcoz of his 3s |
| 4:49 |
yeah im just kidding re bautista. his shots will sink sooner or later. Di naman siya patitirahin ng ganun if Pido didn't trust him. |
| 4:49 |
some sort of delay.. |
| 4:50 |
you guys can talk bball all you like, no bearing naman e |
| 4:52 |
lee was fouled, goes to ft |
| 4:56 |

|
| 5:12 |
paul lee risky pass to |
| 5:13 |
mirza blocked by espiritu |
| 5:13 |
espiritu determined to have a block party |
| 5:13 |
watching espiritu is really like playing nba live. even the blocks are the 'butata' variety. |
| 5:14 |
lee sinks layup but traveled, not counted |
| 5:15 |
sorry, that was fortuna, sank 3 |
| 5:15 |
ust sinks putback. no boxing out. |
| 5:15 |
espiritu fouled on putback try. |

| 5:20 |
ue's duran, pf/sf. sinks 2 of 2 fts |
| 5:21 |

| 5:23 |
ababou sinks it, and 1 |

mvp?ababou
al-hussaini
baclao
lee
barroca
cervantes

| 5:27 |
did i miss any mvp possibles? |
| 5:28 |
[Comment From Guest] espiritu for mvp |
| 5:29 |
wala nang space e. who should i have replaced? |
| 5:32 |
ababou has a good following, but i think al-hussaini will get mvp, if you factor his team's performance. |
| 5:32 |
all admu has to do is focus, and they've got it all wrapped up this year. |
| 5:32 |
[Comment From Guest] replace baclao |
| 5:33 |
replace baclao? not cervantes? |
| 5:33 |
[Comment From Guest] baclao is good but the numbers doesnt show |
| 5:33 |
[Comment From Guest] i want ababou to win the mvp |
| 5:34 |
ust has 0 fbreak pts |
| 5:34 |
10 to 6 assists for ue / ust |
| 5:34 |
22 to 14 outside pts, in favor of ust. |
| 5:34 |
[Comment From gang green] should the mvp be coming from the winning team? |
| 5:35 |
not really, but granted nearly same stats, most likely they will choose the guy from the winning team. |
| 5:35 |
[Comment From Guest] ken bono got mvp b4 kahit na 4th lang sila |
| 5:35 |
yeah there are occasionally exceptions. |
| 5:36 |
[Comment From Guest] i want ababou to win the mvp coz he is cute! hahahaha :) |
| 5:36 |
[Comment From Guest] are we seeing a repeat? ust might end up in 4th |
| 5:37 |

ue is 5-15 from 3 pt line. |
| 5:52 |
teng drive, fouled, and 1 |
| 5:53 |
announcers still talking about dlsu-nu game |
| 5:53 |
no one can really beleive it |
| 5:53 |
[Comment From Guest] maybe it's destiny |
| 5:53 |
[Comment From Guest] haha |
| 5:53 |
theres no such thing as destiny in sports |
| 5:54 |
ababou scores on great fake and layup |
| 5:54 |
you make your own 'destiny', by playing well. |
| 5:55 |
[Comment From Guest] then la salle is not really good enough to be in the final four.. |
| 5:55 |

Do you know what's rare in the NBA? Or in most pro, or even top amateur sports for that matter? No, not a 7 footer with great handles. No, not even a white guy Caucasian with hops. What's truly rare is a self-effacing, humble yet smart and intelligent athlete, but with skills. And when I say that, I mean someone who can play and act like a pro, knows, respects and understands the game yet doesn't feel the need to slap it in everyone's face like he's the biggest thing around (because he's already a big thing).
How rare is it? It's about as rare as a hiphop artist not going on about how big a house he has or how many honeys hang around him. It's about as rare as a reader of this blog who understands what 'self-effacing' means. You know, really rare.
Which is why I bring you a pic of disguised Steve Nash playing street hoops in China.

I gotta admit I'm grasping at straws here. The UAAP Finals are still a few weeks away, and even then my team's almost nearly out the door (and deservedly so, since, well, let's admit it, they suck this year). At any rate, here's a look around what's going on, not necessarily in all of basketball, but mostly what's gotten me interested:
Rubio to stay in Spain - If you need more proof how drafts aren't all that relevant, then here it is. What was mostly considered the second coming of Pistol Pete has decided to wait out till he's 21 to play with the Minnesota Timberwolves, who owns his rights from when the NBA draft was held last June.
My opinion? Good for him. At 19 he has a world of opportunity available to him to improve even more in Europe, which is even better than a kid in the US trying to improve via competing in the College ranks. Sure the 'Wolves are gonna miss out on a crowd drawer, and they worked their ass off trying to get this deal, but you can't fault a kid for wanting to get better first and staying home. Heck, you can't even fault the kid for changing his mind because he's exactly that - a kid, and as such prone to such things.
