High – Cuts or Low – Cuts? The Question Rages.

To showcase Kobe's new kicks, which I sincerely think are killin', here's a vid:
To be honest I'm not entirely sold on 'lighter is better'. However, I've always believed that high - cut sneaks didn't necessarily protect you from ankle injuries like we assume it would. The fact is, if you lace your high - cut sneaks tight all the way up your ankles, you will lose mobility. It's like taping your whole foot + ankles. Try bending with that. Try even running at full speed with that. So what do you do? You lace them up, but not completely tight. Leave a little airspace so that you can retain mobility, right? But if you do that, what good then are high - cuts?
Kobe going for low - cut sneaks means we're on the same page, man. Of course, it also means he's gonna get some press, which is a good thing for Nike. And you also get quotes from people around him, like Phil Jackson himself, who used to play in low - cuts (though probably from Converse):
“The only thing about low - cuts, I think some people started saying low-cuts are a detriment to the game because if you get stepped on on the heel, they can come off on the floor,” Jackson said. “But I wore low-cuts, taped. A ton of players had low-cuts and taped their ankles. It doesn’t really matter.”
I'd also like to add: the reason people I play with went for high - cuts was because we were afraid of twisting our ankle - a career changing injury that's so traumatic it makes me twinge just thinking of it. The idea was that if your shoe covered your ankles, it'd keep from twisting. Prob is, I've seen a lot of people's ankles twist anyway, so that theory is bogus. Besides, if it limits your mobility, won't that itself lead to injury?
Then again, if you think wearing high - cuts saves you from injury and therefore increases your confidence, then that's a big payoff right there. All things the same, I'd go with shoes that make you feel more confident as opposed to any old other one, right?
So the battle between high - cuts and low - cuts continues (and no doubt to Nike's benefit).

At any rate, Kobe's new kicks, called NIKE Zoom Kobe IV Carpe Diem, will be available for P6,995.00 on Dec. 28, 2008 at The Fort, Mall of Asia, Trinoma and Greenbelt 5. First 24 buyers will be given a special hard cover copy of the Sole Collector book – Kobe Bryant edition. Regular Sole Collector books will still be given with purchase of the Zoom Kobe IV while stocks last.
Above vid came by way of BDL, featuring Mike Epps and DJ AM (who looks none the worse for wear after his crazy accident a few months ago).
