  7. If not for Ekwe, san beda won’t even reach the final four…IMPORTS without a filipino blood should be banned from playing in the NCAA.
I just don’t think its fair for the other school and team competing.
Imagine if all school try to scout for foriegn player, it will be a circus out there.

  8. yes the possibility of scouting abroad is actually worrisome.

However, Ekwe’s here on his own free will, isn’t he? He’s not being paid or anything (or is he? please correct me if im wrong), and he’s a Bedan by choice. In my book as long as he’s true to that, he can play.

  9. Gary, hope that Ekwe is here on his own free will. But what took him so long to get here playing at the age of 22? 22 is kinda old for a rookie and a freshman(is he freshman?)..or is there even a age limit in NCAA?

  10. i read an article about how he came to manila (sorry couldnt find the link) and it seemed innocent enough. San Beda nor the other schools won’t go scouting internationally because really, what have they to offer really good players who can gain more playing elsewhere?

And besides if the dude really wants to be a Bedan and consequently forsake bigger opportunities in other leagues, so be it.

but yeah I think the NCAA will start reviewing situations like this. ALthough from all indications it really just looks like Lady Luck smiled on San Beda (ie nakatsamba sila).

  11. Good insight Gary. I would just like to add that Ekwe came here to become a priest, yes he may be 22 but haven’t you heard that children start school at a later age in Nigeria?

He has a a Filipino priest as a close friend back home and somehow this friend influenced him into joining the Bedan Community.

It’s not also fair to say that if not for Ekwe San Beda would not be in the Finals. If that is the case, we should also be thinking that if not for Espinas PCU would have never made it at all in the final four.

NO IMPORTS… I agree with you, I would also like to add not to include Fil-Ams Ãœ Like the case of Mark Cardona, Mike Cortez, Doug Kramer to name a few.

The La Salle basketball program has been successful due to the players taken from San Beda High School. Case in point is Ren-Ren Ritualo and a lot more. I’m sure basketball loving people out there recognize the fact that the San Beda Juniors has a long winning tradition under the tutelage of Coach Ato Badolato. San Beda only offers scholarships and that’s all. I’ve heard of townhouses, SUVs etc being offered to our top San Beda High School players, reason why they go for “GREEN” pastures.

San Beda won it fair and square. It does not matter if they won a point or 100 points. What matters is how they played. And you guys know they played with heart.

  12. pCu…

you are almost right coz the next two Championship trophies will be awarded in 2007 and 2008… in that exact order Ãœ

  13. Ekwe may be an import, there’s no squabble about that, but how would you explain Pep Moore of San Sebastian and some players in La Salle greenhills’ Den? the San Beda Red Cubs were able to build a dynasty amidst the foreign players of their adversaries…

Why? your school can’t handle a guy who can’t even shoot the hoop and knows nothing but swat shots? come on, get real! Ekwe may be a factor but not entirely the reason why SBC made it to the finals then eventually winning it…

Let’s give justice to the likes of Aljamal, Menor, Angeles and Escobal…

  14. Hey PCU!!!

    You weakings…

    Bedans will always win..
a dolphin is no match to a lion haha!!

It is the destiny of the dolphins to lose..
