What more can you ask for? A double whammy Sunday!
Actually, it’s a triple whammy. In just a few hours, the whole archipelago will be conquered by the Pacquiao vs. Larios boxing match. A few hours after that, basketball will again make sports fans’ hearts palpitate wildly as four teams battle it out one last time for the chance to barge into the PBA Finals. It’s Purefoods vs. Alaska and San Miguel vs. Red Bull — all Game Sevens.
The Aces and the Barako actually had it going early in their respective wars, but the Beermen and the Chunkee Giants (esp. the latter) made huge strides to forge 3-3 deadlocks. Purefoods was really impressive in their last outing, a do-or-die match that found them trailing a double-digit Alaska lead in the middle of the fourth canto. The Giants, led by MVP race leader James Yap, stifled the Aces’ offense, holding them to two points in the last 5 minutes. How’s that for defense? And the Giants’ offense didn’t fail them, too, as they churned out the points to overcome the huge deficit and eke out a 99-96 win.
This PBA article presents a peek into the four possible Finals matches (Alaska vs. Red Bull, Alaska vs. San Miguel, Purefoods vs. Red Bull, Purefoods vs. San Miguel) and their ‘historical’ significances. Check it out, and don’t miss what the article writer brands as Don’t Blink Sunday!
